Spiritual Gifts Series: Shepherding & Prophecy

Guiding with Grace, Speaking with Boldness

Some people walk beside others faithfully, helping them grow over time. Others are compelled to speak truth—especially when no one else will. The gifts of Shepherding and Prophecy may seem opposite, but they both serve the church by building it up in love and truth.

🐑 Gift of Shepherding (Pastoring): The Faithful Guide

Definition:
This gift equips believers to care for, guide, and disciple others toward maturity in Christ. Shepherds walk with people through joys, struggles, and spiritual growth.

Key Scripture:

“So Christ himself gave... the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service…”
Ephesians 4:11–12

Biblical Examples:

  • Jesus: The Good Shepherd who knows, leads, and lays down His life for His sheep (John 10).

  • Timothy: Mentored by Paul to shepherd the church in Ephesus with love and truth.

Modern Applications:

  • Lead a small group, youth group, or Bible study.

  • Meet regularly with people for spiritual mentoring.

  • Guide new believers in foundational truths and practices.

  • Walk with others through grief, doubt, or transformation.

Your Impact:
You nurture growth in others—not just knowledge, but heart and soul transformation over time.

📣 Gift of Prophecy: The Bold Truth-Teller

Definition:
The prophetic gift is the Spirit-empowered ability to speak timely, convicting truth that aligns people with God’s Word and will. It’s not about telling the future—it’s about calling people back to faithfulness.

Key Scripture:

“…if your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith.”
Romans 12:6

Biblical Examples:

  • Nathan: Confronted King David with bold truth about his sin (2 Samuel 12).

  • John the Baptist: Called people to repent and prepare for Christ (Luke 3).

Modern Applications:

  • Speak up on issues of justice, holiness, or compromise.

  • Help leaders and churches discern God’s direction.

  • Call individuals or groups to repentance or obedience—always with grace.

  • Write or preach messages that cut through distraction and inspire change.

Your Impact:
You help the church stay awake and aligned—speaking when others remain silent.

🔗 How They Work Together
